Welcome To Our New Web Site
Thanks for visiting! We hope you like our new streamlined design and we've hopefully made it easier to find the information you need. You may notice that we have shortened our name from Ebony Horsewomen, Inc. to EHI, but our mission has not changed - to effect positive change in adults, children, families, and veterans using equine-assisted therapy, equine-based programming, and therapeutic riding to heal and empower people toward leading successful and healthy lives.
Who We Are & What We Offer:
In 1984, Patricia E. Kelly, a U.S. Marine Corp Vietnam-era veteran and African-America cowgirl, founded Ebony Horsewomen, Inc.(EHI). As challenging as the task may have seemed at the time, Patricia had a dream to level the playing field for inner-city youth to have access to the same opportunities, resources, equine-based programming and equine assisted therapy as their suburban counterparts. She knew that this would be life-altering and enriching for those who became involved.
Pushing forward through obstacles and challenges presented in the traditionally suburban and rural horse industry, EHI not only progressed, but broke barriers, stereotypes, and thrived to become the only organization of its kind in America.
To further the mission of using horses to heal and educate, EHI has become the regional leader in the provision of Equine Assisted Therapy and Psychotherapy, and is approved for NASW/CT Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for furthering the education of mental health professionals and MSW and BSW students. EHI has also recently launched its Culturally Competent Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Certification (CEAT) training. WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF HORSES TO HEAL!
As you navigate our new site you will see that we've organized our programming into three Centers of Excellence. Under the Heal category the Healing Horses Therapeutic Center, under the Learn category - EHI Community Resource Center and under the Ride category EHI Equestrian Center. These Centers will help you see all that we offer.
And, as always, we thank you for your support.
